SSENYONGA OSCAR (Founding Artistic Director) is a young, energetic professional dancer choreographer from Kasubi, Uganda who is part of the new diploma on traditional and contemporary dances of Africa at Ecole des Sables.
With training in a wide range of dance styles and a zeal for creativity, he specializes in integrating East African traditional and contemporary dances with break dance. Above all, Ssenyonga aims to use the powerful medium of dance to bring about positive change. In 2013, he founded Mambya Performing Arts Foundation and Dance Company with that very aim, and he is known for creating and performing contemporary and dance theatre pieces that address different issues such as social and political themes.
Oscar currently teaches at the National Theatre of Uganda and Kyabongo University, is the founder and artistic director of Tuzinne International Festival: Where Human Rights Dance.
Ssenyonga has also collaborated with many international companies such as Stop Gap from United Kingdom, Pamoja from Kenya, and Company Merro from Malawi. In 2013 and 2014, he was invited for the first time to Ecole des Sables in Senegal where he started his dance academic and education program. Through his training, he met his mentor Patrick Acogny who introduced him to deconstruction and other choreography tools. Ssenyonga also holds a diploma in fashion and design from Y M C A university, is one of the top art directors and props master in east African.
