Isack Peter Abeneko is the Founder & Creative Director of ASEDEVA group, based in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Considered one of the stars of a new generation of Tanzanian performers, Abeneko is known for his work on stage as a dancer, in front of the camera acting, with his guitar as a musician, or behind the curtains as a choreographer and event coordinator. With a focus on dance, music and theater, he is motivated by the power of performance art to express (and criticize) contemporary issues – e.g. cultural diversity, politics, economy – for public education and entertainment. As a proud ambassador for East African culture and music, Isack has participated in cultural exchanges and training programmes in Tanzania, collaborating with influential artists from the local and international dance scene. He has also performed abroad with internationally acclaimed dance companies, such as Mouvoir, Man Copy, Flinn works, Lumumba Theatre, Mionzi Dance Theatre, Visa2Dance, Fusso dance project, Tuchangamke, Norachi Paumire, and tours regularly throughout Africa, Europe, North-America and Asia. He has also worked with influential artists and choreographers, such as Stephanie Thiersch, Germaine Acogny, David Zambrano, Nora Chipaumire, Musa Hlatshwayo, Opiyo Okach, Kefa Oiro, Patrick Acogny, Vanessa Tamburi and Aloyce Makonde.
