Eric Wainaina has been for several years the voice of Kenya’s hopeful future. A seminal figure in the Kenyan democracy movement; a musical voice for peace during the terrible violence following the 2007 presidential elections; writer/performer of “Daima,” Kenya’s unofficial national anthem; and a voice for equality, opportunity, and social justice for the people of his beloved home country into infectious songs that move hearts, and minds. A musical storyteller who has captured the imagination of a nation. But also a musician who knows how to get people to DANCE. His latest album, Brand New Day, set for release in late 2016, reveals the more personal side of this national figure. It’s a glimpse into the soul of a man who used music to deliver a message that helped change the fate of a nation, and is now bringing a message of personal heartbreak, redemption, joy, and unity to the world. Eric has also thrown his hat into the ring of musical theatre. Right now he has collaborated with the BAFTA award winning TV producer Claudia Lloyd and his wife, Sheba Hirst for the production of Tinga Tinga Tales-The Musical running in Nairobi.
