Catherine Nakawesa aka Kasalina, is a dancer/choreographer, writer and creative coach.
An alumna of Ecole Des Sables Senegal (2011/2013) and DanceWEB ‘13 Vienna scholar, she’s performed at various festivals including Tunis Capitale de la danse ’14, Afrik Urban Arts Abidjan ‘15 & Bayreuth Literature Festival ‘17.
Nakawesa initiated Beautiful Feet, a collective of Ugandan female dancers (2009 – 2014) and cofounded Clay Dance Company (2008 – to date), which mentors young people in Kampala through dance.
As a laureate of Africa Centre’s AIR Award 2016, she produced Made in Shenzhen with artists in China and has since engaged in creative coaching for dance groups & individuals. She was commissioned by EANT festival Kigali ‘18 to train and direct Rwandese female dancers in the creation of iKamba – a riveting dance piece on power relations.
Kasalina is a recipient of L’Institute Français Visa pour la Creation 2019 and Creative Director, OraQo Arts.
