Evon

EVON is a Ugandan soul, blues and jazz singer/songwriter who was in the underground of the Ugandan music industry for over ten years. With these years of experience , she has crafted her own musical style of combining soft soulful and playful lyricism  and rare musical mix of Soulful blues with Ugandan influences.

Her first album ‘Lullabies For A Lion’ was released on Vinyl  in Sweden 2015 . This album was recorded in Sweden with extraordinary collaboration with Swedish musicians and produced  by Lennart Östlund of Sweden’s  famous Polar Studio whose own work extends ABBA and Led Zeppelin, Celine Dion.

Her music career began in 2004 when she  was solely selected as Uganda’s first & only representative to Africa’s first ever talent show, Project Fame  at the time held in South Africa. Since then she worked with several Ugandan musicians and even created a soundtrack to one of Ugandan’s most popular television series, ”The Hostel”.

In 2011, she had her first own concert ‘Rhythm in the Rainforest’ in the unique and unusual setting of Uganda’s largest Forest.

Her album ‘Lullabies For A Lion’  is a personal tale about overcoming insecurities and fears as a young African woman. Stripped bare and Uninhibited, it is a statement that it’s alright not to be the perfect image for any mold. The album art is a comic book EVON wrote and each song is a chapter in the comic. ’Lullabies For  a Lion’ is also available on iTunes and Spotify.

The Göteborgs Posten reviews ‘Lullabies For A Lion’ as  ‘a pleasurable and  stands tall and confident in it’s address”. It is reminiscent of Jaqee, Laura Mvula and the duo Lady (Terri Walker and Nicole Wray), but stands easily by its own merits’.

And Totally Örebro describes  her  live performances as ‘a refreshing encounter with an artist that reaches far out over the edge of the stage. Evon has a stage personality that must be experienced’.

Her musical influences are  Nina Simone,Billy Holiday, Kina, Ella Fitzgerald, Amy Winehouse.
